"First, do no harm."

Dear Doctor _______,

Although I am very satisfied with the medical care you have provided, I feel I must write you about your policy on gun safety.  Your questions and statements about the ownership of firearms were very disturbing to me.  I was at a disadvantage while I was in your office and was unable to respond to you in an equal manner.

I know that you are probably doing what you think is best to keep your patients safe, but all the information I've read on the subject tells me that this approach is wrong.  I believe the entire anti-gun movement is based on politics and emotion, not science.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I still object to the abuse of the doctor-patient relationship to promote what is really a political agenda.  I am enclosing some documents that will help you understand how I feel about this situation.

Since I would prefer to continue seeing you for my medical care, I respectfully request that you discontinue the policy of discussing guns in the office, at least during my visits.  Please respond at your earliest convenience and let me know if this is acceptable.

Sincerely,
